Description

Moccamaster 1.25lt Thermal KBT741 Coffee Brewer

The Moccamaster KBT741 by Technivorm is a premium thermal coffee brewer designed for home enthusiasts, specialty cafés, and roasteries. It brews directly into a glass-lined stainless steel carafe, keeping coffee hot for up to an hour while preserving its full flavour—all without a hotplate. Hand-built in the Netherlands, it features a copper heating element, a manual-adjust brew basket, and a 9-hole spray arm for precise pour-over-style extraction. SCA & ECBC certified for Golden Cup Standard coffee.

Reliable Brewing Without Burnt Flavours or Guesswork

Maintaining coffee hot and flavorful can be challenging. Many brewers rely on hotplates, which lead to overheating and burnt flavours. The Moccamaster KBT741 eliminates this issue by brewing directly into a glass-lined thermal carafe, keeping coffee hot and fresh without added heat. Its manual-adjust brew basket allows flow control, letting you customize extraction for a perfectly balanced cup.

How It Works: Brewing on Your KBT741

  • Fast Brewing Time: Brews a full 1.25L carafe in just 4–6 minutes.
  • Consistent Temperature: Copper heating element maintains 92–96°C, shutting off automatically when the reservoir empties.
  • Even Saturation: 9-hole spray arm pulses hot water over grounds for bloom and full extraction.
  • Optimized Extraction: Cone-shaped brew basket steeps evenly, delivering clarity and balance in each cup.
  • Thermal Carafe: Double-walled, glass-lined carafe retains heat without external heat sources.

How to Brew with the Moccamaster KBT741

  • Fill the reservoir with cold, fresh water to the desired level.
  • Insert and rinse a No. 4 filter. Add 60g of coffee per litre of water.
  • Set the manual drip-stop: full flow, half-open, or closed (use closed briefly if grabbing a cup mid-brew).
  • Screw the Brew-Thru Lid onto the thermal carafe and place it into position.
  • Turn on the power. Brewing completes in 4–6 minutes.

Maintenance & Cleaning

  • Daily Cleaning: Rinse brew basket, carafe, and lids with warm water after each use.
  • Deep Cleaning: Use a coffee server cleaning solution to remove built-up oils inside the carafe.
  • Descaling: Every 100 brew cycles or 3 months using a recommended descaler to prevent mineral buildup and ensure performance.

Best Brewing Practices

  • Grind Size: Use medium-coarse grind to avoid over-extraction or clogging.
  • Filters: Oxygen-whitened No. 4 filters ensure clarity and clean taste.
  • Water Quality: Use fresh tap, filtered, or bottled water—avoid RO or distilled water to protect the copper element.
  • High Altitudes: Slightly lower boil points won’t affect brew quality. Performance remains consistent.

Golden Cup Standard: The Four T’s

  • Temperature: Consistent 92–96°C for ideal extraction.
  • Time: 4–6 minute brew time for flavour development.
  • Turbulence: 9-hole spray arm agitates grounds evenly.
  • Total Dissolved Solids (TDS): Meets ECBC/SCA target of 18–22% extraction yield.

Questions & Answers

  • How does the thermal carafe maintain heat?
The glass-lined interior holds coffee at serving temperature for up to an hour without reheating.
  • Can I brew a small batch?
Yes. Use the half-open drip-stop setting and reduce your coffee and water accordingly.
  • Is a hotplate included?
No. The KBT741 relies on its thermal carafe to preserve temperature and flavour.
  • How many carafes are included?
The brewer comes with one thermal carafe. Additional carafes are available separately.
  • What should I do if my brew cycle is slow?
Mineral deposits may be the cause. Descale the brewer following the user manual.
  • Can I use RO or distilled water?
We do not recommend it as it may damage the copper heating element. Use filtered or bottled water.
  • Why does my coffee taste weak or bitter?
Check your grind size and coffee-to-water ratio. Stick to the standard 60g per litre of water.
